I have no blame for Schmid. He shouldn't have been playing tonight after he made 45 saves yesterday in game 1 of the back to back.

Our goaltending was good last year and wasn't an issue (the only true guys out there viewed as upgrades at the time would have been going all in on Hellebuyuck or Saros, and saros has also been horrific this year), it hasn't been this year.

Gravy and Severson were expiring and cost 11 mill combined. I would have liked to bring one of them back for a year or two (gravy woulda been nice for the PK and hard matchups), but last year Bahl was looking ready to take over the role, and Luke has been fantastic and was getting into the lineup.

Overall the goalies have played significantly worse than last year

And Siegs-hamilton is a step back from what it was last year

Just looked at the Devils game stats, they look like they out Cane-d the Canes. Damn, 47-16 and 6-3.

The devils had significantly more high danger chances. they hit multiple cross bars, posts on open nets, and had a goal overturned by a phantom whistle.

The first one was a lapse, but schmid was very slow getting over.
Same with the 3rd
the second one was a light shot from the point that he just missed.
the 4th one he got undressed on.
the last one schmid tapped it out away from Luke right to the trailing shark.

I know all about phantom whistle because the rangers have been screwed over multiple times this year

There is no doubt Devils need to clean up defensively. But they scored 2 goals on odd-man rushes (one wasn’t really a rush). Devils hit 4 posts/crossbars, had a goal called back that should have been a goal…and otherwise dominated run of play.

But yeah, let’s go back to how Devils would have been better with Kakko instead of Hughes.

I think Vitek makes a save on at least 2 of those. (and I think a rested Schmid stops at least 3 of em)bRegardless there's no reason to send schmid out there on a back to back just logically.
