I like that package for sharks, but not sure he’s waiving from one dumpster fire to the prospects of another.

Not a good trade for Columbus. It could easily be argued that Laine is better than Hertl. And he's definitely younger and on a better contract

Gee two players who have health issues, And one under-performing prospect for Tomas Hertl, How in the world can the Sharks say no to that?

you kidding? Tomas Hertl is way better than Patrick Laine, at least this year. And he's less injury proned. And Center's are always more valueble than wingers.

Lol no it's not. He's well worth that contract

But yeah I'd definitely do this if I'm SJ

He is now, but he's 30. 7 years left on the contract. He's a power forward. That contract will be an anchor right when SJ is ready to compete. I think they'd be wise to move it if they can

It doesn't exactly fit the Sharks timeline, but objectively a fair deal imo. And he'd definitely be a decent 2C when the Sharks are competitive again if they do decide to keep him around. Overpaid a million or two, but with the lack of contract commitments the Sharks have, the massive amount of money coming off the books the next 2-4 years, and the rising cap, it shouldn't be an issue at all

Zero need to move Hertl unless he wants out.

Now to be fair both players would likely benifit from his move! Laine gets a fresh start with a team with little to no media coverage and a fast growing prospect pool to help build around him. And Hertl gets an elite wing in Gadreau plus a solid young core to help build around plus his leadership would be huge.

It’s not crazy to think this could work, not saying either player waives their protection to go to the other team but it’s At least feasible.
