Ok but you could do that with like 60%+ of GMs...

I get that Holland has not been great in EDM but those are way to much changes in a "what if" scenario.

Also, I'd still call this defensive group suspect, especially that left side.

Insert the best gm and he'd still look foolish in bad markets. Hard to attract good vets & stars, always have to overpay. Have to somehow keep picks, succeed at drafting, develop, trade away when can't afford, overpay some. This is now depleted to no return without stripping down to the studs

I don't really want to defend Holland but yeah with hindsight you can make any GM look like an idiot based on their drafting.

All GMs are bound to have a bad play.

It's not just Holland though, the Oilers haven't developed a player drafted outside of the 1st round in a decade. Apart from Skinner, they don't have a single draft pick who's accomplished anything of note. The Oilers have absolutely no development in their organization. They haven't really hit on most of their trades or FA signings either. McDavid's time in Edmonton is not going to end well.

Just look at their drafting record. Skinner, Ethan Bear and John Marino are the only 3 players picked outside of the 1st round to do anything of note and 2 of them aren't on the Oilers. They can't draft and have zero development department once so ever. You want to know why they suck? That's it.

Yup everyone, however, Edmonton's drafting record for the past decade has been a joke. They have hit on most of their 1st rounders but that's about it. 2 of the 3 players picked outside of the 1st round to have any kind of impact did so on different teams and the other is Skinner who's not looked great this season. The Oilers scouting department is a joke as is their development department. That's likely one of the biggest reasons this team is not going down a fun path.

The whole front office needs to be fired and rebuilt. All old Oilers should be sent packing and the organization needs to modernize. They don't have a scouting department or a development department.

That I will blame on Ken Holland. The Red Wings were pure ass at drafting for most of Holland's years at GM.

It's been a couple of GM's in Edmonton. Its still a little early to blame that all on him but he's done nothing to improve the player development department since he's been there.

I completely agree with you here mate!

Their first rounder have usually been solid (apart from Yakupov and Puljujarvi), they just can't get players from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds to do anything. This explains why their team has gone nowhere for so long now. They sorely lack depth and I can't see how they fan easily fix this.
