That Columbus trade is bad. They are both young but Raymond has already established himself as a top 6 winger. Sillinger had a brutal sophomore year and has a lot to prove to prevent being a bust. Plus Columbus already is flush with wingers. This deal makes 0 sense for both sides.

I think they tried…wasn’t the intent when they traded for him to lock in up?

On TSN,

Dreger: Well I can tell you that both the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers are going to try as hard as possible to extend the contracts of Andrew Copp and Evander Kane. Now, there’s no guarantee, of course. These guys are both pending top unrestricted free agents. In Andrew Copp, talk about a chemistry experiment that has been highly successful. Perfect fit with Artemi Panarin. And Evander Kane has been an excellent complement on the left side with Connor McDavid. But you do have to go through the negotiation. I’m told the New York Rangers are going to push hard – hard – to extend Andrew Copp, we can understand why.”

On Forever Blueshirts,

The New York Rangers are working on a contract extension for Andrew Copp.”

I think Ranger fans sign up for this in a heartbeat...but NYR ownership and management- not so much. Instead they scoff at the fans: "what do you know about hockey?"...."pipe down and continue to pay top dollar for an attempt at 1990's style hockey". Not for a second do I think Yzerman would be dumb enough to make this kind of deal...yet if it were on the table, NYR reason for turning it down would be illustrative as to why they have 1 Cup in 82 years!

Looking back at it now, signing trocheck over Strome and Copp was the right move

Absolutely...no argument there. Copp did slide in there nicely for that short sample....but Troch is the better player.

On ESPN, Copp was asked how much he spoke with the Rangers and said, “Not too much, honestly. An offer really never came in. I think they kind of were looking in a different direction which might fuel my fire just a little bit, to be honest with you, but I’m looking forward to making my stamp in Detroit.”

It's actually hilarious how insufferable Rags fans can be in regards to players.
They're acting as if Trouba isn't a capdump himself.
