Description

The Oilers organization seems hellbent on not doing anything productive with Lavoie. Instead of losing him to waivers, I'd like to see Old Dutch make a subtle add to the back end: Aho has crooked numbers against all levels of competition and the Islanders likely want to see some freeway open up for heir apparent Samuel Bolduc. I can't quite gauge the level of interest there might be on Long Island, but the last time Edmonton shipped them a RW, they made off like bandits.

Full credit to @Ross_Johnston for the Konecny deal (I've opted for the full 50% retention over the 45% and change). I loathe the idea of moving Petrov and the two top 2024 picks in the same move, but I've wanted TK for ages now and fully believe his production alongside either McDavid or Draisaitl gives Edmonton the best 1-2 punch in the league. Being able to guarantee third line minutes for Brown and Foegele only looks to increase Edmonton's depth to a level I personally haven't seen ever.

If this is at the deadline this year maybe it gets done but Briere has been adamant according to reporters that the ask for TK this summer has to include an extra 1st compared to what you put in this trade

That's probably the realistic return for TK, but Briere seems to be pretty adamant on keeping him around for a bit while longer. Who knows though?

If Edmonton is forced into upgrading the 2024 2nd to the 2025 1st, conditional or not, then Edmonton is going to need more coming back to balance out the deal. I'm thinking the 4th and 5th round picks the Flyers currently have in 2024 at a minimum.

The deal as it stands is probably pretty close, maybe there's a late pick in a future round swapped between either team. Personally, I'd rather just toss Berezkin into the deal for the Flyers and bypass any additional pick shenanigans.

The value can't be so far off that the decline is "easy". Aho may be an NHL regular, but he's used as a bottom-of-the-roster piece by the Isles. I don't mind chipping in a late pick in 2025 or 2026 to help the Islanders generate roster space for a full-time Sam Bolduc, but it's likely closer than what you're offering.
