I’d rather have Marinos low aav than 1 year if Brodie (who makes more), a wing prospect who won’t make the team, a very late 1st and a VV replacement that doesn’t even improve the position.. let alone we have to retain on VV and give up a 2nd. Devils easily decline.

I disagree with parts of your assessment. While I agree that the trade as-is isn't worth it, I think Samsonov is unquestionably an upgrade, and Brodie for Marino might be an okay sacrifice given how Nemec looks. I would counter with something like this:
