I would accept this but I don’t think OTT has any interest in moving him to dump Joseph

I know it’s just 1 preseason game, but I thought Matinpalo outplayed JBD. Both RD signed cheap so personally I wouldn’t actually mind if JBD was the one included if Matinpalo can play well in his next couple outings! JBD was okay, but I don’t know if the gap is huge between him and Matinpalo.

Ottawa isn't paying that to move a player they would normally want. Nothing says that they are really going to part with Joseph, maybe they have other plans. And yeah, JBD is in the plans

I don't think the Ottawa Senators would share this though. JBD has been in the plans and will continue to be. I know hockey fans are not really enamored with that type of boring player, but the more boring he is, the more efficient he is. His job is to keep the puck out of the net

Ohh for sure, I doubt Dorion would move JBD. Just really after the 1 game so it doesn’t mean too much but Matinpalo looked fantastic and JBD looked meh, some trouble handling the puck and all but again, 1 preseason game doesn’t really mean a whole lot. Great D depth for the 1st time for us in what seems like forever is a revelation lol

JBD is a pure defensive D-man, he will never handle the puck the way you'd like. His only mindset is to keep the puck of the net. Matinpalo is more an offensive D-man, I was also surprised as he was better than I thought but his NHL future is pretty unsure (25 y/o). JBD will have a NHL career though.

And yeah, our defensive depth is becoming quite something

Sanderson, Chychrun, Chabot and Zub is one of the best top-4 in the league, on paper with the Canes and Bruins, Colorado.

But the depth behind is also becoming impressive... Brannstrom, Kleven, Thomson, JBD, Guenette, Donovan and maybe some others

For sure! Much better than in recent years! Even Thomson looked fantastic in his game the other day! Can even add Hamara and hopefully Nordberg (I’ll admit, haven’t seen him play but he’s an absolute unit) to that list of promising prospects on the backend!
