The trade as proposed is more than fair. Canes aren’t going to give up a first for a rental. Flames get a 2nd and a good prospect that can fill Backlund’s role in the long run. Backlund isn’t worth a 1st

Unless the prospect is Nikishin or maybe Morrow a 2nd and a prospect isn't close. If the Canes won't trade a 1st for a rental then they won't be getting a good rental from anyone. Backlund will easily fetch a 1st and more at the deadline.
