Kulak is a quality defensemen as a 4-5 and he is worth his contract all day long. Pesce is not worth more than Kulak and a first rounder.

Pesce is better, gets more time on ice, and with the retention as you have it is cheaper too. The difference is not a late second 3 years away.

Rod also hates playing defensemen on their offside, so Kulak is now the 4th LHD and the right side is Burns|Deangelo|Chatfield.

Uhhh... what? Kulak is a fine 3rd pairing guy, absolutely.... Pesce's a top pairing defenseman that can play all situations and he makes way below his market value... for a team that wants to contend and doesn't have a replacement for Pesce, you're going to need to offer some kind of replacement and then make up the value because Pesce's going to be better than what you're giving up at RD... if you can't do that, try Broberg and a 1st as a starting point. That's probably light too and if you want RETENTION, you're still adding

Rental, maybe. But that return won't get him. Pesce is a genuine top pairing defenseman that can do everything well. He instantly becomes the best defenseman on the Oilers. If he had term, he'd be completely untouchable. The fact he's a rental (that the Canes do not have to move) is why there's any conversation, and this ain't enough
