I’ve been proposing this same trade without the 3rd here which is about the same value wise. If this was the actual trade that went through I’d consider it fair at best, probably slightly towards San Jose’s favor but I wouldn’t be upset as a caps fan. I know other caps fans aren’t as big on Barabanov, which is understandable given his lacking defensive game.

Look at his numbers and you will change your tune, I also assume Duclair, Hoffman, Labanc Rutta etc will be shopped and moved and Mantha is off the books at the end of the season and isn’t really a bad player to be fair, just overpaid.

Or Hoffman or Labanc! Duclair at only 3 mil prorated doesn’t hurt teams cap much. Whatever it takes to bolster the prospect pool and draft pick surplus

It’s not that he’s bad defensively, sharks utilize his playmaking and have him playing high up to help with breakouts. He’s actually ok in the D zone. And him and Ovechkin could create some Magic together.
And this gives sharks what they need, young good prospect and picks. And Washington gets cap space and a huge upgrade over Mantha
