The Penguins would need the Sharks to retain a certain amount on Karlsson to make it work. I cant see you guys doing that and then also retaining on Petry, since that leaves you with no retention slots for the next 2 seasons.

2 years of retaining 50% of Petry's contract is better comparing to 4 years of Karlsson's. SJ needs 2 years for rebuilding to grow a new team anyway.
Plus, we still have a 3rd slot for retaining salary.

this can be managed by the 3-ways trade. SJ will need to sign a lot of young players in the next 3-4 years. So, I don't believe that SJ will agree on EK's salary retention

Rangers match anything that's not a 1st OS and one coming from SJ would amazing considering how bad they are

Sure, we get an extra $500k in cap, but go from 3 roster players to 1. That extra $500k is not even enough to add one player, so I dont think that works for us.
