Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

Car- Karlsson 50% retained
EDM- Pesce
SJ- from EDM Campbell, broberg, Edmonton 1st
from CAR drury, Suzuki, Car 1st

Edmonton perspective- get a top pairing RD and get out of Campbell’s contract

Carolina- get Norris winner and 100 pt D Karlsson, don’t have to give up as big of a haul to get him.

San Jose- utilize cap space by taking on Campbells contract and retaining on Karlsson. Get an absolute haul in doing so. Top prospects that can all play this season and 2 1st round picks to help the rebuild.

So Carolina are giving up Drury, Suzuki, Pesce and a 1st to take on 8.5 million in EK? No, Canes decline and the Oilers don't get Pesce. For that kind of package, EK needs at least half retention

I agree, I only put 30% because that’s what the rumoured limit that SJ was willing to go but for that package it should be 50%

If San Jose are only eating 30%, they're not getting most of this package. Pesce would have to be moved seperately, the only pick I think the Canes could justify moving is the Philly 2nd, and maybe you include Drury or Suzuki, but not both. EK at 8.5 when he's just as likely to have his ankle vaporize and never be the same as he is to be a 100 point defenseman again, I'd argue more likely to have the ankle issues.

I don't think a particular package will change SJ's stance on retention. A 3rd team will need to be involved. I wouldn't eat that much for 4 years. Completely understand SJ's stance.

That’s an absolute guess. Injuries happen but the guy just put up over 100pt and won the Norris. You’re not going to get him at a discount. I agree 50% retention on that deal is fair though. Having him at 5.75 mil is a bargain. Especially for 4 more years.

He's had ankle issues dating back to his time in Ottawa, he's 32... that ankle could burst at any moment, and it's more likely than him winning another Norris. His value is high now, but he could have another problem with that ankle in game 1 of the season and never be a 30 point player again, forget 100. That's the major issue with EK. He's signed until he's 36 and he's injury prone.
