I like stepan as an insurance policy. I don't think we are going to be parting with that much draft capital this year or in the near future. We need to start stockpiling decent prospects or we risk a HUGE post-window drought. I think management is planning for about 4-5 years down the road and hoping that will be one rebuilding year rather than a decade (see Chicago).

True, but I think the Sakic/MacFarland method of signing multiple top college players each season could be a bigger impact for the farm than we think. Look how many Eagles players were college signings.

You're certainly not wrong there. And they have really done a good job of targeting those free agents to make up for our serious draft ineptitude. Not sure how sustainable it is, but its worked well for the past few years.

Dunn is a much better player than Girard at this point. I see zero reason why the Kraken would downgrade on defense when they are trying to win, let alone give up a draft pick (even though it's a seventh rounder) to do so. I should also mention that Dunn is likely going to easily get more than double both the term and AAV you offered, and Seattle won't trade their top pairing LHD after just re-signing him.

I can't see Dunn signing for just 2 years at a $3.35M AAV. I think his next contract will be in the 6-8 year range with an AAV north of $7M. At that point he'd be signed for longer than Girard. Either way, Seattle's not trading their top-pairing LHD. Dunn will remain a Kraken for many years to come.

Dunn at 3.35M is a pay cut from he made in the 22/23 season on a 2 year deal. No way is he taking a pay cut for another short term deal.
