1. Chicago was a team designed to tank, there were only 4 regulars on the entire Chicago roster with a better xGA/60 than Chiarot and all of them played quite sheltered minutes except Dickinson. Entwistle, Khjaira, and Tinordi are the others.
2. It is literally Chiarot's sole job to play defense. He absolutely wasn't paid nearly 5M for his offense. Setting him as the bar for defensive play is embarrassing. I mean hell last I checked Chiarot had a better xGA/60 than Draisaitl, M. Tkachuk, Stutzle, Nylander, Crosby, Point, E. Karlsson, and Thompson this season. That's literally 9 of the top 20 in scoring this season
3. Unlike point 2, Kane is not paid to play defense he is paid to provide offense. It is fact that Detroit finished 24th in GF last season and Kane would undoubtedly be a huge improvement on that. Not to mention him and Cat have excellent chemistry together

All of those guys you mentioned had at least 30P more than Kane lol. Even on NYR, he had a ~52P pace. He's dropping quickly. Being gone for a good chunk of the season too? He's just gonna get worse and worse. Open your eyes, the league is changing.

Kane was also injured. This is well known. Also all those guys also played on contending teams, Kane played 19 games on a contender and it takes time to get acclimated. His 5v5 production in New York was the same as Nylander's post trade.

This might be news to you but generally when you have a successful surgery it fixes the problem that was disabling you. Kane still has some of the best hands in the league and that kind of skill has always aged well. Foot speed is not needed for that.
