totally fair assessment, he took major steps this year tho and Dmen are harder to come by. If you recall we got him in the Taylor Hall trade

I'd like to bring Boqvist back but on a 1 year maybe 950k max deal. I want to see what we have in guys like Foote, Thompson and Holtz.

I put the bit about the young guys in the brief at the top. The reason I had Boq back in was because he played both wings and centered and played on Hischier's line and the BMW line for stretches.

If Thompson or Clarke perform better they shuffle in and Boqvist can move wherever we are short. Foote and Holtz are both currently on the lineup.

For both players I just used roughly what Bastian and McLeod got. Bahl could be much lower at the the QO. I'm trying to be conservative. Boqvist for $.950 when Bastian got $1.4 is a probably a pipe dream. Bahl at $1 when they can QO for less than $0.9M I think is probably closer to reality.


I figured in both cases they could sign longer deals now and when the cap goes up $10M-$20M in the next year or so we wouldn't have to repay them when the Torontos of the world are giving people way too much with their new cap space.

It's all a guess but it should kinda normalize a few years after the escrow debt is paid off and the gains are realized.

The reason why I believe is to preserve Nemec's ELC for one more year. Playing Nemec for more than 9 games this season would start burning years off of the ELC.
This matters a great deal as the difference between paying Nemec 900k instead 8-9m in 26-27 could prove invaluable for the Devils as they'll be right in their window of contention at that time.
That's why I'm such a big fan of Fitzgerald picking Miller up in that trade.
Besides, Luke Hughes got two years of development before joining the Devils and that looks like it is turning out fine so don't see why that shouldn't be the same for Nemec.
