Probably wrong, but I don't see Avs getting a higher profile D man like Dumba. I think they'll be content to run a rotational spot on the third pairing to try and keep JJ fresh. JJ, MacDermid, work in Brad Hunt every now and then, and find games here and there to see what Malinski's got.

Extra cap space should go to someone that can fill 3RW and move up in the lineup if needed. Or save the space for the deadline and Kovalenko.

Exactly. I think they're comfortable holding the cap space to see how things go. At worst, they have a roster that should keep them competitive until trade deadline and they can fill a missing piece or two. If things click even somewhat with these guys, and they get one more depth forward, they'll be dangerous.
