It's a really good team. Gotta give DW some credit here. Getting Orlov at thay contract. Bunting is the type of physical winger I was looking for. The goalies bought off and Pytor is tremendous depth. Deangelo 50% retained is nice too.

If it's for one year, I doubt it. A team that he could flourish in could see Senko get a big pay raise when the cap goes up next year. As long as it's at a cap hit like that, the Canes can afford it without moving the hulk smash blueline

Orlov not on the bottom-pairing for 7.75 but yes the roster is crazy. A quality offensive center would be nice given that KK and Staal aren’t doing much in the o-zone.

We'll see. I'd like him to "go for it" more often. Now's the standard praise time. Every year he does do well with signings. Come March is when the standard disappointment comes year after year.

If he trades Pesce/Skjei to "maximize value"...that disappointment will come early.

I think you can argue every pairing is as good as the others.

Look at what McCrimmon did when he traded away his top prospect, 3rd, 4th, 5th...this year and multiple 1sts and 2nds last year?

Or the year before when COL traded a 1st, 3rd, and Timmons.

Or the (2) years before the TBL sending 1sts for EACH of Coleman and Goodrow.

Pittsburgh with Granlund didn't even make the playoffs, New Jersey with Meier got ousted in round 2, Toronto with ROR, Schenn, Gustafsson, Accari, Lafferty and McCabe won 5 games. Tampa with Jeannot. Florida did nothing and got to the cup finals. Carolina made some minor changes and were a healthy Svechnikov away from the finals. He doesn't need to change much at the deadline, the way he approaches it is absolutely fine.

I 100% agree that IF they win the cup...the approach is fine. The hard part is...it's 100% fair to say he never tried to make his team better at the TDL despite Svech, Patches being out. That's a 100% fair statement. DW never tried to win is 100% fair in 2022/2023. I just hope he learns for his mistakes.

Svech was hurt after the deadline. He didn't mortgage the future and instead still has the option to make moves this summer and add to an already deep prospect pool. The way Waddell approaches this is absolutely fine, and it works. We've seen it. If svech doesn't tear his ACL, Canes win that series against Florida.

It's possible and we'll see. Are you going to praise DW if he trades Skjei/Pesce or do you not want to trade them? Let's get you on record before the season starts.
