No, thanks. Gibson's four-season term is extremely valuable to the Ducks because it's a bridge to Anaheim's opening window of contention.

That means nothing if Gibson's demand to be traded is true as is being reported. Teams very rarely ever hold onto a player on principle once it gets to the stage where the player refuses to suit up for them again. At this point, the Ducks will have to look at cutting their losses and get whatever they can because Gibson's mediocre stats for the past few years, cap hit and trade demand has reduced Anaheim's leverage to zero.

Well, we'll just have to see whether those "reports" of John Gibson demanding a trade turn out any more meaningful or accurate than those "reports" of Jake DeBrusk demanding one last summer.

DeBrusk did demand a trade. He just rescinded it when they got a new coach.

My point is that his pre-season rescission, which made NO papers, had no effect upon either the rumors (which continued to be repeated as wisdom) or the ultimate reality.

I mean they did make the papers. It was all over reddit/twitter/athleitc/espn when he rescinded it.

Since he wants out and the cap market is awful I'd bet he could be had with retention for a very minimal return. RyJo is still a 40-50 point player he was 50% retained for an AHL guy. According to market then Gibson at 50% retained may be worth a fringe NHLer and a 4th. Now I don't think Anaheim does that and I do think a few teams would offer more but it certainly wouldn't be the haul Anaheim fans want of multiple picks/prospects
