Liljegren is far from a bottom 4. Dude is ready to do stuff, we just have too many of those players on our team.

So you think he is a 1 or a 2? He barely was allowed to play down the stretch

I think he's easily a second pairing guy, which would normally fetch a first, but this is why its now a second, and maybe would even be open to making that a 3rd round pick moving to a 2nd if Murray actually plays.

For better or worse, Seattle seems to be rolling with Grubauer and one of Daccord/Driedger as their goalie tandem next year. They don’t really have the roster space to take an expensive flier on Murray at this point, and the Kraken’s remaining cap flexibility after re-signing their RFAs is best spent elsewhere.

I also think the value is off too. A second that could turn into a first seems like the cost of Liljegren alone. Since everyone knows the Leafs have to trade someone to get out of the cap pickle they’ve gotten themselves into, I imagine they’d have to pay extra to move Murray.

What about a 3rd that could turn into a second?

Trading liljegren makes the team worse now, and will hurt us even more in the future. He's ready for top-4 minutes and his next contract is going to be very affordable. I wouldn't trade him straight up for a late first. There's more effective ways of getting rid of Murray's contract and I just don't see any reason to move on from Lilly.

I would prefer Timmons over Lilly, I think these passing Dman we have too much of, and want to have a full look at Timmons personally.

Murray+2nd for a 7th is fair. Leafs don’t have a 2 though.

All D-man are. Timmins can lay the body, yes Lilly has more skill, but I think Timmins is the full package.

That might be more fair value-wise, but I still don't think Seattle is a fit. They have a lot of money tied up in goalies right now, and Murray's not good enough to justify the hoops Seattle would have to jump through to add him. Perhaps another team would be interested in this sort of deal though, depending on how they value Liljegren.

I'm gonna disagree, but I'm also gonna ask what would get it done, involving these 2 players to keep leafs cap compliant?

For Seattle specifically, the Kraken would have to ship out Schultz and/or Driedger in a separate transaction to clear the roster and cap space to add Murray and Liljegren. Even then it's a tight squeeze. I'd say if the conditions on the pick were dropped and the deal was Murray and Liljegren for Toronto's 2024 third back, that might entice Seattle enough to bite. I'm not an insider though so I can't really say for sure.

Sammy signed for exactly what I thought he would, over a month ago smile This would have been gold had I known Matt Murray on LTIR
