No one has reported he's a pennypincher LMAO. You're clueless.
Orlov just did it, DeBrincat is probably going to do it, Hall did it, Klingberg did it twice, you're clueless if you think players won't do it. Pesce knows he's not going to be worth 7 million in 7 years, that's why he wants it, it's why players want it, and Carolina never put themselves in positions to have a contract look bad. Look at the Svechnikov deal, they had no issue paying that because he's going to be 28 on expiry. If you really believe what you said, you need mental help. Seriously.
Dreger did, on the GYB podcast less than a week ago. Orlov is 31. Not 28. If you think that is the same thing, it is not me who needs help. Klingberg is 30, not 28. Klingberg also signed a 1-year in Anaheim in the hopes of raising his stock to cash in, he failed at that, that's on him. DeBrincat, at 25, I could see signing perhaps a 3-year to cash in at 28, but that would be surprising. Players have very limited windows in the NHL to get the bag, today's circumstances will entice more players to take that risk bc of the flat cap, but Pesce is correct that the lowest risk option is to get $ and term now.
As for Svechnikov, yes he did sign shorter, as did Matthews, since they were 28 or younger, entering their prime AT EXPIRY. Those guys are signing for as much term and $ as they can when those deals expire. 28 is also THE SAME AGE THAT BRETT PESCE IS TODAY. He is not going to give you 4 prime years for $250k/yr salary. if you think that, it is not me who needs help.
