Columbus deal would need to be protected but i could see it work

I get the idea that the Caps are going to go for it while they have Ovi, Backstrom and Carlson locked in for another 2-3 years respectfully. I'm just not sure the Flames deal is enough to get both of those players. I think Calgary could get more selling them off in separate deals.

Mantha to me is a cap dump so asking for a team to take on his salary and get Schmaltz also likely takes more assets. If you kept Mantha I think the value is fair.

I could see the Caps adding something to the AZ trade or moving Mantha elsewhere.

On the Flames deal, I'm not sure they could get more. It's widely known that half the team wants out, which depresses everyone's value. This gives the Flames a younger d-man who has a QO in place coming off a season as a top-pairing guy and a third for Hanifin, then a 1st, 2nd, and 3LW for Lindholm. Snively should perform better than Lucic or Ritchie have. A third line guy isn't a sexy add, but he's cheap and hungry and can improve on exiting players, so he's not a nothing throw-in, either.

Don't know why Washington is buying... they should be sellers. Backstrom/Oshie/Carlson I think are all kinda washed. Get Ovi the goal record and build for the future.

Usually and time will tell what they do but usually with vets who are iconic like Ovi and Backstrom teams typically try and stay competitive to their own detriment while they are still playing. Pens are doing it right now. Canucks did it to their peril with the Sedins. I'm not saying it's smart it's just usually what happens. If it was me I'd start over as I agree with you those guys aren't what they were.... although Ovi is still crazy productive.

That would be plenty for Lindholm. For Lindholm and Hanifin, no it’s not enough.
