Well, I certainly wouldn't trade T. J. Brodie for Jeff Carter; giving Brodie away for free would be better.

Those UFAs offers are pretty weak and would be beat.
The trades....Really don't see how they help the Leafs. Leafs take on 12.3m in cap for three players including the negative cap value of Carter. Leafs trade just 8.2m in cap for three NHL players.
Leafs sure could use the extra 4.3m cap difference to improve the team, and keep on minor league contracts Robertson, Hirvonen and the first.
