Description
Bergeron & Krecji come back for a chance at the cup however both players play roughly ~50 games. They sit out a lot of games since they’re older and on cheaper deals. Bruins have loads of depth and youth wanting to come into the league. Guys like Merkulov get looks all the time with 37&46 rotating out of the lineup.

Avs decline. Reality is that Boston may have to pay to move Hall. They won't be getting a first for him.

I think you are missing something. Ya that is a horrible contract, but he is not a terrible player, he put up 40 ish points this season even while hurt. I don’t think you can get a first, but I don’t think you have to pay.

Guy labelled it Reality then assembled a very unrealistic ACGM

Sway, Bert, Clifton, and others get more AAV

CGY cant take on cap, they have less cap space than BOS

Zero chance Hall fetches a 1st and Kings arent trading Vilardi for Ullmark

I wouldnt hate any of this tbh, just not realistic

Boston also have the problem, that all the other teams know that Bruins has very little cap flex.

The trades are one sided, but the narrative that Taylor is overpaid at 2 years, $6m AAV is funny to me

If you run down the UFA list, there are very few players I’d give 2 years, $6m AAV and think they’d be better than Hall. He’s replacing Krejci in the top 6 and I’m expecting a big year opposite Pasta.

The one variable is if they trade him to make room for Bertuzzi. I don’t anticipate the return would be great (thinking 3rd round and a decent prospect). If it takes any retention to get rid of him, then you don’t trade him period. As much as I love Bertuzzi, there is some real risk of overpayment

My assumption is Reilly is cut, Gryz is traded for a 3rd, and one other move is made to allow for more salary flexibility. I also am assuming that Bergeron’s salary will be closer to 2.5 than 1 and we will be no more than 22 players on our roster

Avs have more cap space than the Bruins but still not enough for this contract as it is if they want to compete next season. And if the Avs with their ~$20mil can't really do Hall, what team can? That's the problem with Hall deals that don't work out retention somehow.

There are teams that can take the contract. Avs just aren't one of them. This year isn't the issue for the Avs. They can easily take his 6M this year and still solve 2C. Its what happens in '24-'25 when Landy's $7M is back on the books that you can't keep Landy, Hall and a 2C on the roster without moving other key pieces.

eh, every time I attempt an ACGM with Hall at $6mil, after a cheaper 2C option, you're left with basically $9mil to sign RFAs and UFAs. After RFAs, even bare minimum, it's ~$3mil for like 5 roster slots. It's really, really tough unless they're going to run Newhook at 2C.

Easy was the wrong word. Just went through it again with Hall at the full 6 and resigning the RFA's I expect on the roster (Byram/Newhook/Meyers) and ended up with 6M for 4 spots including 2C. Obviously been a while since I went through an ACGM with Hall added.

Would like to change my position from the 2nd year killing our cap situation to 6M is too much for a top 6 wing this year as well unless we plan to move Toews or Girard which is far from ideal.

It's not about Hall as a player but rather the position the Bruins are in and everybody else knows the position they're in. Add to that the flat cap for everyone else and very few teams can afford to add that hit. It's a pretty similar situation to when Patches was in Vegas.
