Id sooner pay up for a C that can push JT to wing than Bertuzzi, especially with his injury history

Not many good options out there.

JT is great along the boards in the o-zone and does win the puck battles. His foot speed at center is a issue and if the leafs can make a good trade for a 2C it would be a real good move.

nick schmaltz would be nice but we should look at someone with a little more grit.

Agree he isn't the guy the leafs need. Is Adam Henrique out of Anaheim good enough to play 2C?

Compher and O’Rielly are only signing at 5M+. Not even 5 mil gets it done u probably have to our bit a team to 5.5. Rodrigues and Domi will be around 4 mil. The cap may not work.

We have more cap room than people think once Murray issue us resolved (trade or buyout). We can easily fit one, maybe two (Domi + Rod) if we bring back Schenn (~$1.5-1.75M). But only one for sure if we sign a FA dman for $4-5M (Mayfield, Soucy, etc)

Is everyone just going to ignore the fact Bertuzzi is 28 and has never played 82 games? He has a career high 62 points. He never made the playoffs in Detroit, not once. Boston had clinched before he got there and all he did was help them deliver one of the biggest choke jobs in NHL history. I find it humorous that Marner is looked upon as a playoff failure but has made the playoffs every year of his career and is almost a PPG with 14 points in 11 games. Bertuzzi is worth about 5*5, and there will be lots of regret there. 6 x 7 is just ridonkulous.

yea I'd sooner take Domi. Will come significantly cheaper, plays with the edge you want out of Bertuzzi, can play up the middle, doesn't have a crazy injury history like Bert, puts up points in the right situations, etc

in fairness he's a very solid player and played well in the playoffs, Boston collapse or not. That being said, I agree that his injury history is way too risky and while I agree his contract should come in way lower, some GM wanting grit and etc will make that mistake. Just think/hope that won't be Toronto.
