Why trade for Zach jones instead of leaving the space for Nikishkin

Cause I'm anticipating that Skjei will be let go next off season and that's the spot Nikishkin can take over when he's ready to come over

I mean unless I missed something... you guys don't have a spot to put him this year unless you want to move Harpur. You guys could use some more depth up front and Drury is a good solution to that

I like Jones, and think it will play well. That being said I like Drury too and his uncle does show nepotism.

But rumor had it that Drury argued with Gallant about playing Jones more, and Gallant was resistant. For whatever that is worth lol

I mean it does solve a depth problem for both teams and Drury isn't a fool. I think Drury will be a very good fit for your fourth line and Jones can be a long term solution a 3LD

4th line center is like last of their needs. They can promote Brodzinski/leschyshyn or find a cheap vet in free agency

I mean Drury is much more of a long-term solution than Brodzinski given his age and has more upside than him. I can see how Leschyshyn might be a more desirable option but I just don't see Drury passing up on a chance to reunite with his nephew

Drury wants playing time and he isn’t gonna jump Mika, Trocheck or Chytil on the roster. He would be a 4th line center for years and it seems dumb to give up assets for that

It's a swapping of depth pieces... A third-pairing defenseman for a fourth-line center... isn't exactly an unheard deal... I think Drury would get a much more consistent role on the Rangers given the logjam at center for the Hurricanes.

Like I said before, puck moving defenseman is more of a need than a 4th line center. Jones should also see powerplay 2 time as well

With Trouba, Miller, and Fox still there... good luck to him. He's a depth defenseman rn and I don't see that role changing at all this season given that everybody on the Ranger's starting blue line will be back. I think both players' role would increase on their new team

Trouba is terrible at moving the puck and is RD. Miller still learning how to be a puck moving defenseman because he has the tools

Where would Carolina slot in Jones? 3rd pair? Because that’s exactly where he would be on the rangers so I don’t see how the roles would be different lol

I can see that tbh but I think it's more likely that Lindgren comes back than Skjei comes back. I mean the Hurricanes need a third-pairing defenseman and I thought that either Jones or Brendan Dillion would make the most sense and I ended leaning towards Jones because it would be a lot cheaper to get him than Brendan Dillion

OTT has no interest in a player who will be 30 YO when his next contract will start who will want 7m+ for 7-8 years

I mean he's a player who's going to help your below-average defense... He's going to be probably pretty good for the next four or five years. He's not the greedy type... He'll probably want 5.5x3-4

Teräväinen is much better defensively though so if Ottawa can re-sign him for like 4-5 years at a much more reasonable contract than ADB, then add a 1st + prospect + 4th, they are doing really well here. But yeah gotta know if Teräväinen is going to sign with Ottawa
