That's probably close to "value", but it'll never happen. It would crush DET's depth (if we look at the last few SCF winners, they were DEEP teams). Yes, DET needs a superstar (as does CHI), but a superstar alone doesn't win cups (as McDavid, or Yzerman).

True but I think Vegas just proved that you don’t have to draft your team to be successful. I mean how many guys were on the team that were drafted by Vegas (not counting expansion draft) I don’t think this deal gets done. But Detroit could certainly still be successful without the picks. It’s just a hell of a lot harder.

Yeah. But they also got a lot of their players for nothing in the expansion draft, which, technically, is also "drafting your team".
