Both the Keller and DeBrincat trades get beat, Even with Jarvis that's not close for Clayton Keller and the Debrincat trade is a royal joke.

Jarvis isn't on the table for trade. The idea is to ADD to the top-6, not swap out.

Keller is a significant upgrade though. Now and long-term.

Obviously. That’s why you would have to include Jarvis in a trade for Keller.

I’m not a canes fan. Just did this for fun since you guys have so much cap + assets and almost never make a big move. But hypothetically, would you be happy if you guys essentially swapped Necas and Jarvis for Keller and Debrincat going into next season.

Keller is a scoring upgrade but the Canes love Jarvis contribution on both ends. They believe Jarvis can be that type of player. Jarvis and Necas move if we can get a big body scorer. Keller isnt that. We would trade our best futures to get Keller to add him but he isnt worth moving our young top 6 for.

I just feel like you’re thinking way too much about it. Keller is ELITE. He just scored 37 goals 49 assists and is only 3 years older than Jarvis and a few months older than Necas. He’s also on a great contract. I can understand not wanting to move both for the 1 player, but if you could essentially swap one of them for Keller on the main roster while losing a few future assets, you do that in a heartbeat. Who cares about size. You guys need a difference maker.

Not to mention you’ll probably have to pay Necas and Jarvis similar contracts. The cap is expected to go up a lot, and so will their ask. Right now, Keller is on a bargain.

Also, Keller is a good two-way player.

I understand, but I stick with my position. Keller is a stud. And I would love to have him. But I think Waddell is not going to lean towards swapping out or even trading up pieces like Necas or Jarvis, unless we stumble upon another Matthew-T opportunity. It still leaves us with a spot to fill. Plus, I do get a feel for players they have drafted and are cultivating for very long term stay. I think Jarvis is one of those. I lean towards Necas as well for now. We'll have to wait and see how the chips fall.

Keller is great in an non defensive scheme, we can agree on that. I would expect his scoring to take a step back with us. Also, he isnt a dirty area scorer in the playoffs kind of guy. that is what we need. Why would we trade a really good top 6 guy for a guy who doesnt meet our needs to attempt to excel in the playoffs?

Keller's bargain long-term contract, consistency, and two-way game are definitely fits. But I think the Canes would offer up largely futures on this one. I haven't heard if Keller is really that available. By the way, I would be interested in Schmaltz if Keller isn't there.

I hear what you’re saying, but we really won’t know if that’s true until it happens. Keller’s only playoff opportunity came when he wasn’t even in his prime, yet he was still highly productive.

I probably just don’t know this team well enough, but as an outsider, it’s consistently felt like the Canes have never been a major cup threat because they’ve always lacked those ELITE forwards. Maybe that has more to do with their play style and how they generate offence.

I think a lot of people buy too much into the narrative that winning the cup is about depth, playing hard, scoring garbage goals, and being big/tough, which it is. But it’s also about having the best players. Everyone will look at Vegas’ success and attribute most of it to the fact that they made their blue line really big, or something stupid like that. However, we all know the biggest reason why they were able to get over the hump: it was because of Jack Eichel.

winning the playoffs is luck, staying semi healthy, and hot goal-tending. As folks say, it is like winning 4 sets of 7 coin flips. It is impossible to say adding another smaller player would make us any better. We need bigger body dudes and that has been our target lately. I dont see a lot of dirty area scoring from Keller now so it would be hard to say he would start for the playoffs. Its not a dog on keller as I think he is a great player. Like other great players, it has to be the definite fit of our need to warrant moving roster players for.

I’m probably just a little too high on Keller. I think he certainly has Matthew T potential. When Tkachuk was traded most people probably weren’t expecting him to become a top 5 player in the league. Not saying the same will happen for Keller, but the potential for a Hart-calibre season is there.
