Just makes a lot of sense for the Avs imo. Toews is gonna need a massive contract with a full NTC. You have Byram who is likely going to develop into a top pair D and also need a big payday. Thats like 3 huge salary defenseman and the Avs need help up front. Landeskog being out they need winger help and Willy is an amazing player. Toews position is more important ill give you that but both are elite talents.

Toews position is indeed more valuable and also he saves the leafs cap in the immediate. Im not saying toews for Nylander isnt a good place to start but to think a 1 for 1 trade is fair is simply leaf's fans being ignorant. If you want toews for Nylander you would need to add to make up those short comings.

I mean the aav is relevant for one year until they both get new deals. If the avs cant afford to commit to Toews hes gonna walk and depending on how extension talks go they might be looking to dish him. I highly doubt you are going to get a better offer than William Nylander.

Same could be said for the Leafs. saving almost 3 million for a season isnt negligible. That compounded by the Leafs getting the more valuable position is why a 1 for 1 isnt realistic. Leafs would have to add something to bridge the gap in value.
