Samsonov is 2 years older than Hart, has played less games, and has been on better teams but posses a similar career save percentage. The 1 year where Hart was on a playoff playoff team he had an above league average save percentage and was a top 7 goalie in GSAx. One astronomically bad year have brought down his numbers but being on a bottom 10 team you can only do so much.

Dubas did that with Mrazek last year, dumped his contract to the Blackhawks for 13 draft spots. On paper it looks like the Leafs “got” a second rounder back, but that’s not really the scenario

Secondly, Mrazek posted an .880, Murray posted a .905, which was league average or might’ve even been better. The difference in their cap hits is LESS THAN 1M. And if your goalie is injury prone, their cap hit doesn’t actually matter if they’re on LTIR. Murray has the reputation of a Stanley Cup winner and playoff performer. In the case he stays healthy, the Sharks can get assets by trading him to a contender, retained, as a backup.
