Isn’t Brent Seabrook on LTIR? Why would Tampa move him if they can just keep him on LTIR for cap purposes?

So they can accrue cap space during the season and add at the trade deadline.

Can you explain how that works because im kinda confused. My understanding was that if they get rid of the seabrook contract it allows them to accrue capspace but from what I have found that amount of capspace you can accrue is calculated by summing the salaries on the active roster divided by the total days in the season. If a teams salary expenditures fall below their accrued cap space then they are gaining cap space. But they would be spending to the cap anyways so woudlnt the amount of accrued capspace they gain from ridding the seabrook contract not be very much or at least the cost it would take to dump it?

When a team uses LTIR they can't accrue cap space during the season. Otherwise you can. For example when I kept seeing the Rangers CFACGM this season I wondered how they could fit Patty Kane in after they traded for Tarasenko. They were 2 mil over the cap.

But Rangers fans explained to me they'd accrued enough cap space to acquire Kane. I still don't fully understand the salary cap to be honest. But this is essentially why Tampa fans want to dump the Seabrook contract. It really limited what JBB could do at the trade deadline.

right that is what i tried to explain above the calculation is based of the remaning cap you have divided by the amount of days you were under the cap (idk explained it better above) but it is all based on how below the cap you are and that results in how much cap you can accrue but it sounds like no matter what the lightning will be spending to the cap this offseason so I dont know if it makes much sense to get rid of the seabrook contract from my understanding (which is pretty limited)

JBB is going all in again. He's got his core locked up and he'll be active at the trade deadline. Don't sleep on Tampa. They're getting some much needed rest this summer and one look at their core says they're still a Cup threat. If any of those Syracuse boys can step up then look out. I have a ton of respect for that team. JBB is a cap genius. He'll figure it out.
