Then not getting Hart. Lol Gotta give to get. And you don’t have a first this year to give up. The flyers will want a more immediate return than just a 2024 1st for their franchise goalie. I At least gave you a highly productive RHD in return so your cupboard on the right side isn’t bare

No. I personally don’t think you have anything to offer for Hart that isn’t Byfield or Clarke so I don’t see how a deal gets done with the Kings because neither of them are available

Nucks 100% go for that if you threw in a 2nd or a B tier prospect or something like that.

I doubt Seattle sends a 1st over for a 30 year old 30-ish point player. They could just use that pick and most likely get someone with that same production that's both younger, and cheaper

They got far in the playoffs and they will want to build on that. That pick will be a late first so whoever they would pick wont play for them for probably 2-4 years

Common feel in Seattle is they were playing with house money come the playoffs. They aren't going to send a first for Laughton when they could sign a FA to do the same thing and at least control the cost/term of it. I could see them trading a 2nd or 3rd but also dependent a couple of variables - Do they resign RFA Geekie? And can they find someone to take on Wennberg?

Past that I think you don't see them make a move like this until after the 23/24 season when contracts start to come off the books.

Fair enough but it is a very weak FA class so that will drive up the cost of those available for signing as well as in trade

Having players who can play in 2-4 years is important to this club. Also, forward is a position of strength and Laughton doesn't improve upon the forward roster they already have, certainly not at the cost of a 1st rounder that will play in any # of years. If anything, they may need to subtract from the forward core depending on whom they retain (Sprong) and who may get outplayed but the youth coming up.

Agreed, but I also don't think they are that aggressive in signing FA's past their own RFA's/UFA's. Others will be supplemental trades similar to Bjorkstrand last year. Come the end of 23/24 with contracts off the books I think you'll see Seattle start being more aggressive towards FA's on July 1st. This also allows them time to understand if they have a 2C in Wright or need to look elsewhere.

Maybe Throw Wennberg into the deal as a dump? That could make the 2nd rd pick become the 1st. I do agree tho, a 1st straight up is probably overpay, but with Laughton you know what you are getting and he plays in all situations and all through the lineup. That is valuable to most teams imo.

No guarantee a late first ever even plays. I'd have to look up the statistics, but its hit or miss. With Laughton you know he can play and plays well and plays hard. All really depends what Seattle management is looking to do. I dont think this is as far fetched as you may think.

I would absolutely take wennberg back in a deal. Torts already knows him ( although I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing lol)

I think it would take A LOT to pry ANY first rounder (or second rounder, for that matter!) from GM Ron Francis at this stage. Not saying he won't one day, but with all respect to Laughton, he doesn't provide much that this deep forward group doesn't have in spades already. At the acquisition cost of a 1st rounder---for a team only 2 years into it's existence and is still trying to "stock its cupboards"---in my opinion it's a pass.
