If only Lafreniere was a right shot it'd be tempting but Calgary has too many left shot forwards already.

Calgary wouldn't take Goodrow he's 30 years old with too much term on his contract.

Why not? 4 more years at a 3.6 cap hit. Gives you grit and PK in the mid to bottom 6. Yyou get a pick and a skilled top 6 in Laffy with him.Put him on a line with Kadri and Coleman, and nobody wants to play against them, and they can contribute offensively.

4 years is way too long, the rookies and prospects who make the team will all be needing raises before then. Ruzicka and Dueher made the team last year and will need raises soon (in 24 and 25 respectively). Wolf, Pelletier, Coronato, Zary, maybe Poirier and a few others are NHL ready now or close. We don't want to lose good young players because we picked up yet another bottom 6 player on the wrong side of 30 taking up 3.6 mil in cap space for too long. The Rangers won't retain any salary and 4 years would cost too much to pay a 3rd team for retention too.

And then there's the Lindholm extension assuming he is willing to extend. Hanifin too if we don't trade him. For that matter Lafreniere needs a raise too right now!
