So this is 2024-25, so he signs a 1 year deal for 2023-24?

With his history, I gotta wonder what kind of year he is having to get 60 million bucks

It's been a trend recently of high-level players getting deals like this right after their ELC's. Stutzle, Caufield, Cozens, etc; they're all getting paid now so that the team doesn't have to play more later or risk losing them because they can't afford to pay them what they'll ask for after a bridge.

The injury history thing is a bit overwrought - lots of players have an injury history prior to reaching the NHL; we just don't hear about it but Bo never had an injury history prior to the NHL so we only see what happened once he got to the NHL. Think about Jack Hughes, he missed a ton of time his first few season but got that monster contract because he produced. Bo is a producer in all areas of the ice and his comps make $7.5M or more. If the Avs sign him to a bridge and he produces the way he has or even a little better, the price on his next deal will be higher than the figure here, probably around $9M. So, pay him the $7.5M now or more later or risk losing him when he hits UFA. If he gets injured again, they can always LTIR him.

The problem is the combination of Injuries - a mix between concussions and lower body. The upside is clearly there, but there is also a legit chance he'll only play 40-50 games a season and not be available in PO.

And Malgin contract seems like an overpay - Bottom 6, that can't PK or bring physicality to a PO run.

Correct, just a one year, show me deal today. I'm sure he'd rather preserve arb rights (next summer) rather than leave money on the table with a 3x4M or similar. I assume he proves his ability to play a full season at the same production he's already displayed. Scuttlebut is Byram wants a huge deal, and so I give it to him.

Malgin injured his groin in Game 81. He's certainly a player with limitations, but under $2M for a productive 3rd liner is reasonable.
