Canucks decline. If they move Garland, it is to clear cap space and fix the logjam we have at winger. Retaining on Garland makes the impact on our cap space less, and taking back Yamamoto makes the impact on our cap space almost zero while not fixing our logjam at winger.

I see it as you’re clearing 1.4M in cap space this season then you can resign Yamo at 25 years old for a lower cap hit if he doesn’t perform at the 2.75M pace I think he’s capable of. Then you’ve the next two years of Garland mostly off the books. With the cap rising 800k won’t sting as much. You’re likely gonna have to retain to move him if you don’t want to give up a good asset to do it

Still doesn't change the fact that we have no need for Yamamoto. He'd probably be on our 4th line at best. His qualifying offer is $3.2 mil, meaning he most likely won't sign for less than that unless you go up to the 4-5 years of term range. I also don't think the Canucks will have to retain to move Garland. He's a 50 point middle six winger, and his contract isn't terrible for that. You can argue he's slightly overpaid, but only by about 500k. He should return a mid round pick, probably around a 3rd. If GM's want Vancouver to pay to get rid of him, then we'll just keep him instead as there's no reason to pay to dump a useful player. The $1.4 mil saved by moving him doesn't really help Vancouver too much. If Garland is moved, the majority of his money will go to getting a 3C.

I would also say no from Edmonton, we don't need another pint sized player that gets nothing done in the playoffs when things get rough.

Well he is three inches taller than Yamo lol and he’s never had a chance to play in the playoffs so you can’t say that but I think his style would translate well to the playoffs. He’s pretty much Tyler Bertuzzi light
