That's a more reasonable expectation of a return for Marner

Could you be more specific. I am not sure which trade you are against and could you add what you would add/subtract to make it work in your teams favour.

I think if we move Mitch it has to be to a team that is in win now mode. To me that means a futures based package that we can use with cap space to aquire others. In essence it is trading Mitch + Liligren for Crouse, JT Miller, and the cap space to add Domi, Graves and have non-league min players on the 4th line.

The question is do we have to move him, which is a no. But it feels like running it back is not an option to my end and if we keep core 4 there are limited options.

Could do, I guess I feel there are a couple teams that could do that deal and so a team may be willing to add to it.
I removed the fifth but I think whether it is Ari, Ana, Chi, Det, or SJS, there are teams willing to eat Murray for the buyout cost to get a 1st in a good draft

A good question. Essentially it allows them to retool/reconfigure. The cap space and futures allows for a change and rebalancing of the roster. I feel this roster is stronger, faster, with more balanced goal scoring.
I wanted to see what it would look like this way.

Leafs are likely not getting a return on a Murray cap dump. He isn't Mrazek and SJ isn't CHI

I’ve heard this argument a lot - doesn’t hold water imo. Moving Mitch for futures is insane - no guarantee you’ll be able to flip this futures for an impact player, and almost guaranteed not a player at Mitch’s level. Why do you think coyotes would even move Crowse? Miller’s contract is toxic and Domi / Graves aren’t moving the needle - meh

That is an interesting take. Why do you think the situation is different that the Mrazek trade?

I imagine the team would buy of Murray so a cap hit of 800,000 then 2 million so it will cost, but not a 1st alone. I would imagine there are a number of teams would be interested in getting another first round pick. I dont think SJS has many players to move that they can get decent picks for back (Karlsoon, Hertl...and maybe Coture if the retain). I see this is paying to help move forward on the rebuild.

Agreed, no guarantee. I think this move would be condition on the Leafs already having the other trades in place, a sort of one day earthquake of moves. I think Arizona would move Crouse as they get draft picks back and they are not in contention of winning and getting Muzzin allows them to stay at the same Cap number, with real $$$ savings.

It's not an interesting take because SJ fans have been screaming it in a billion leafs ACGM having murray going to SJ. It's actually a very unoriginal take at this point. We're beating a dead horse.

Murray is worse with more uncertainty with his injuries. His contract also has more of a hit than Mrazek. Further CHI is not SJ meaning they are not in the same situations or operating the same.

SJ would be interested in taking Murray as a cap dump but they're not going to be sending additional valuable picks in the process. The most common one has been SJ's 2nd for BOS 1st, (to just move up in the draft like 9 spots...), which is not going to happen. The trade here being changed to CAR's 3rd for BOS's 1st seems fair, but before when it had a 5th on top going to TOR it was not fair nor realistic because SJ wouldn't be sending any straight up picks for Murray. Upgrading from a late 3rd to a late 1st though is reasonable to take on a Murray dump

I think the leafs lose any marner trade, so I would rather get futures and cap space to allow us to retool. In the end, it is not the best trade but I like how the team salary structure is more balanced now. I feel our bottom six has legit nhl players rather than more fringe guys.

It’s been 56 years since they won a cup. Before Marner arrived they had missed the playoff 10 of 11 years, and hadn’t won a round in 19. Since, they have made the playoffs every year and advanced as far or further than all but 4 teams this year. I get it, it’s not a cup or ultimate success, but this team has been much much much better since Matthews and Marner arrived. Let’s stop blaming them for 56 years of losing and be patient. It took Ovi 13 years, Stamkos 12, MacKinnon 9 to win a cup.
