Not a fan of adding Hayes for more than spare parts. I view Kuraly as an integral part of the locker room and a key defensive forward for faceoffs and PKs. If a deal could be structured around some guys like Bemstrom, Bean, Roslovic, and one or two of those extra mid-round picks, then I'd think about it.
I'll take that MTL deal, but not sure they do.
Girard is fine, but I don't think he's what this team needs. I'd rather target some more defensive defensemen to shore up the back end and help the goaltending.
I don't want that ANA trade, and most likely neither do they. Laine is not a center, and we have plenty of wings. Trading for another just doesn't make sense.

This is about 90% what I'd say so just gonna quote and add my differences of opinion. I agree with the Girard point, but honestly at that price, I'm cool with bringing him in. Reliable 2nd pairing guy on a reasonable deal for 4 years is worth giving up that package, even if he doesn't quite fit what we'd want in a more lockdown type D man.
Yeah, the Laine center crap has gotta stop. He's abysmal at faceoffs, doesn't defense well, and just overall fits playing winger 10x as well. It was a fun experiment in a lost season, but I never want to see it again. While the points about positional need are INCREDIBLY valid, I can't help but be tempted since Terry is a hell of a player. And unlike all these unrealistic deals with Marner and friends, he's under team control, has a more manageable cap hit, and fits the teams timeline better. The big issues is just the center thing. Now, if you're confident KJ can be 1C/2C with Carlsson long term, I think that opens the door to make a deal like this without having to worry as much about the positional issue. If you feel KJ is destined to be a winger or have big doubts about his ability to play C though, something like this just won't work.
Value wise, it does seem like a fair deal imo though, so if the stipulations were met to where Terry being a winger wasn't as much a concern, I would certainly consider a trade alone these lines.
Laine is better in the middle of the ice. He keeps his feet moving and doesn't have to try to keep the puck alive by himself where his lack of physical skills (agility or strength) serve to make his size disadvantageous. He breaks the puck out of the zone and is an eager retriever. These are good qualities of a good center.
He isn't bad defensively according to both his RAPM chart and his HockeyViz (2.9 xGA/60 with Laine on the ice vs 3.10 xGA/60 without). He did this
against top competition with
Jack Roslovic as his most common linemate. He posted great results driving shot differential. He's not a Selke candidate but you should update your priors. Kekalainen said as much in recent interviews, he'll get a shot. Yes, faceoffs are a concern. Yes it was small sample size.
As far as Sam Girard goes, he's great defensively and a great PKer. He's not physical, which is something that Jarmo wants, so that is a knock. I think CBJ uses Avs D as the model going forward and having someone from that model on the team would go a long way to helping guys like Blankenburg, Mateychuk or Svozil come into the system.
Terry is very good. Playing with Laine I think you'd see both well above PPG.
