Well…let’s forget the fact that Matthews is probably a top 5 player in the league, more importantly the Yotes need a cornerstone someone they can sell to the fans. NHL is not leaving AZ, so the Yotes need to drum up support…and what better way than to bring home the prodigal son, and sign him to a long term deal. Did I mention he’s a top 5 player in the league.

Uugh, there's a false illusion. Why does Matthews sign long term in Arizona? No logical reason he does. Arizona can't even sell out their one game a year well the Leafs are in town, and most of those fans are snowbirds Leaf fans. A five year contract? Arizona doesn't give up any assets and provide Matthews with a better even if does sign with Arizona.

Leafs didn't give up anything to sign UFA from other teams.......Bunting, Kampf, Tavares, Jarnkrok, Brodie, Holl, Samsonov but somehow the Leafs are entitled to compensation for one of their UFAs....delusional.
