Puts the Devils in a real bind when Mercer and Schmid are up the following year. Can't just hope for a $5m increase in cap, even that may not be enough.

I'm just saying thats the way to free the cap. May have to pay someone to take him but if he has a decent bounce back next year maybe a contender would take him 1 mill retained?

Nah, then you are essentially adding that to the cost of getting a Keller. Palat would have to want to go somewhere. Can't really make any trades based off that.
