I honestly don't know anymore. The top guys need to perform. This year was pitiful in the playoffs and that can't happen again.
With that being said, IMO the rebuild was too fast, but that is just me. Laf, Kakko, and Chytil have not really developed much, I think the one showing the most promise is Laf. Kakko, if he learns how to use his body more and create offense more that way instead of skating himself into the corner with no outlet, he will be much better. Chytil is not worth his money, I actually want him gone TBH. I would just trade him at his highest value and open up that 4.5 mil. With that money, you can find a more competent 3C that doesn't fall, throw the puck, or go invisible for months out of the year. He also just doesn't even win faceoffs.
IMO K'Andre has a lot to work on, but he has a lot of potential. Just needs to work on decision making, defensive zone awareness. He has all the tools offensively and he can skate, and create offense, but he also skates himself into bad areas a lot. But the Rangers will resign him and it should be a 2-3 year bridge deal for no more than 2.5 mil.
Laf you resign to a 2-3 year bridge deal with the same cap as 2.5 mil.
IMO I love Tyler Motte. He can actually produce as he has shown over the last few years with the team after trading for him twice now. If they can get him at good years (3-4) and a good number, he can be a good 4th liner as he has shown. Him and Vesey weren't given the full opportunity to play in the playoffs and I think if he played more he might have actually produced a little more for the team.
I brought up Othmann as he's a low-dollar guy and in reality, he's set to be a 2nd/3rd line guy anyways, so start him off with Chytil and see what he can do, but give him some minutes as well. This guy is not the next one, he's a good player, but he will be very limited in what he can do at the NHL level. He will not be a 70-100 pt guy, but I can see him averaging 40-50 pts per year once he develops which is a good career.
I brought up Robertson as a guy that can play at the level and be a bottom-pair dman that is physical and plays well defensively. Hopefully, he can figure it out and develop into a good NHL defenseman.
I brought up Dylan Garand as a backup goalie because Halak needs a new deal. Unless they sign him to his 35+ contract, there are not many goalies that are out there under a certain dollar amount that will be a suitable backup. NOT saying Garand is either, but for cap purposes, he is.
Now I am stuck. There are not many right-wingers on the market this year. There are a couple, but they are in demand all across the league which means the Rangers can't get into a bidding war with some of these UFA's. But that 3rd line needs a mid-vet caliber player that can score 25-30 pts during the season. Again, there are not many out there so I left this open with the potential of other people coming up with ideas or trades that could happen, etc.
Lastly, I know this will be under the player limit as the Rangers will have no choice but to carry either an extra F or D with them and that is IF they have enough cap space for that player.
I am worried about the future because the number of times I have said this that JAMES DOLAN has maybe cost this team dearly with the quick throttle of the "We need to compete" line he threw out there not even 2 years after the letter. This didn't give Gorton and Davidson enough time to do things. Yes development is key, but the Rangers aren't always the ones that HAVE to develop the player, as much as it is the franchise's job to do this, it is ALSO on the player to develop themselves. With that being said, I am very worried about the future and hopefully, this doesn't backfire as the team has now turned into an older team with the average age of their top players being 29 and the team average hovering around 25/26 now.
kakko and lafreniere are going to get offer sheeted for more imo. 3+mil for sure maybe even 4 for laf --> 2nd rounder coming back.
Kakko is already signed for another year. Im sure you meant K'Andre. But yah sure, I don't think they will because of current cap situations across the league.

Not to mention that buying out Goodrow (if it comes to that) won't affect the team until Panarin is off the table so it is uneducated argument by fil97.

buying out goodrow is going to help but not if you have to match two offer sheets for 4mil each on the two players. you are still very close to the cap and will probably need to make some changes.

Probably don't need to pay Motte that much if he is given term.
Yes and no. They won't give him term. max 3 years for him and hes going to want more money than his 1.35 he made this year. maybe 1.5-1.75 for 3 years?

For three years I would not think a raise, more like 3@1.25. The comments by Motte at the end of the season and the beat writers' comments as well make me think they already have a deal done but are pulling a Lou and not announcing until the last moment. If that is so then probably on the lower end too.
