Matthews isn’t worth that. He likely will get at least $13-14 mil on his next deal, but I wouldn’t give it to him. There are 4 guys I’d give that money too - McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov and Draisatl. No one else in my opinion is on that level and can elevate their gameplay in the playoffs like those guys.

He took 5 years knowing the cap was expected to take a big jump after the new TV deal. Unfortunately the world had other plans. He should be looking to maximize his earnings now or he takes 2 years waiting for it to go up again and get a huge last deal.
