Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

In this scenario
- Miller would move into a more prominent role on the power play
- All of the "kids" are kept together
- Gourde and Larsson come in to add more defensive ability, leadership and depth

For Seattle, they'd be getting a #1 defenseman to pair with Dunn, while opening up space for Wright next year.

Trading Fox seems beyond ridiculous, but considering how the Rangers seem ready to make drastic changes to the roster (and the fact that most of their cap is tied up in players with NTC/NMC's) Fox ends up being one of the few players with significant cap they'd be able to move.

Interesting note: After a disastrous few seasons during the early 90's, the Rangers (or at least, Mike Keenan) reportedly looked into trading a young Brian Leetch for veteran Chris Chelios. This was just months before they'd win the Stanley Cup and Leetch would win the Conn Smythe trophy. It's hard to watch the Rangers be in a position where they feel they may need to move on from one of their young players.

I think you are forgetting about how Fox ended up on the Rangers in the first place. Whilst Francis was gone when the Hamilton trade went occurred that sent Hamilton and Fox to the Canes, he was certainly paying attention to the situation. Fox only wanted to play for the Rangers, and whined his way into a trade to get out of Calgary and Carolina. Francis knows that, and he isn’t going to pay for someone he knows won’t want to play there.

It was a thought of mine while making this, but Fox did weigh some other options before going to NY (particularly Chicago). Seattle may be anything but close to home for him but it's definitely not a bad destination considering they're contending and the city isn't as remote as some others. If Fox were that determined to stay where he is, I would think he'd take the opportunity to sign a NTC. Other than that, so long as he's getting paid 9.5 million to play it would be strange to see a player stop competing out of protest for not being where he wants to be.

Very bad idea for nyr to trade Fox. He's going to be a top 3 defenseman in the league until his late 30s. Top pair RHDs are a rare and extremely valuable commodity.

Didn't know this, thank you for the info! I had thought that as long as the contract went past a player's age-27 season they'd be able to have their NTC included on the contract for the entire duration of it.

Realistically, no; I would have to agree that the Rangers could make many other moves beyond trading Fox. This was just more of an experiment, but one of the few ways I could see the Rangers getting a solid top-6 RW and top-4 D this offseason (beyond Kane maybe... maybe re-signing on a discount)
