Wings make a push with outs

Créé par: CJ1909
Équipe: 2023-24 Red Wings de Detroit
Date de création initiale: 5 mai 2023
Publié: 5 mai 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Wings gain assets to acquire players to plug holes while continuing to rebuild the next 1-2 years:
- Filled 2C, 3C, RHD and RH Fwd depth
- Acquiring younger assets that can be used in the lineup for years to come while out of the rebuild
- If Wings miss playoffs, they have Foligno, Perron and Carter as playoff depth for 2nd-4th round picks.
- Kasper and Mazur stay in GR or maybe get called up at the end of the year but stay under 9 games so they slide their ELC and align with Mo / Ray / Raz extensions
- Murray provides a stop gap for a year as Cossa develops and allows the Wings to get another 2nd pick in the 1st round
- Addison can step in and led one of the worst PPs in the league. Not sure Mo can do this.

I hear you, but Carter and Granlund can be flipped at the deadline for playoff hungry teams. They both can play C and provide depth offense. I could live with it next year as it gives us assets to do other things instead of give up our current assets for those things and having nothing left. That extra 2nd and 4th basically get us Addison and Foligno so in theory it is totally worth it for a year to plug a huge hole at 3C, depth on the 4th line and much needed RD while we can take on cap.

I understand adding assets but Yzerman is big on character and I think Carter hurts that. Granlund takes a roster spot from a kid who likely deserves it. I know we'd have to take these 2 players for the Pens to make these deals.

I like your creativity but there has to be a balance between stacking assets and competing for a playoff spot. Plus we need cap space down the road to at least give bridge deals to Seider and Raymond.

it's cheaper for the pens to buyout Granlund than retain $1.5M

Also doubt carts waives for Detroit.

We are def not making the playoffs next year unless our team is as good as this team. There is over $30M in free space next year with this team, I think we will be okay. Kasper is no better than Granlund next year and doesn't deserve to start in the NHL, let him be in GR for a full year with his ELC aligning with extensions of Mo and Ray. Yes, Granlund has a terrible end with Pitt, but he is still a 40-50 pt guy under contract for 2 more years at $3.5M.... not sure we could find someone similar that can play C in many situations -- Pitt was a terrible fit.

I do think 24-25 is the last rebuild year as that should be a good mix of vets, developed players and lots of ELCs.

Small little bump for RyJo for Fabbri as they can pick before DET and get the guy they want. It makes sense.

If a player is ready to play in the NHL then he should be playing in the NHL. Like Yzerman says he has to grab and earn it. Like Raymond and Seider both did. Like Bergy did last season.

Sending Edvinsson and Soderblom to Grand Rapids was wise but at least they got fair chances in training camp.

Red Wings fans need to get over the Kenny Holland archaic way of burying kids in the AHL. Rosters shouldn't be built based on birth certificates.

Look again, it will cost $1,833,333 for 3 more years after the smaller hit in 23-24 of $833,333. It makes more sense to retain $1.5M for 2 years. Buyouts are always double the length of remaining contract length.

Sorry, but in the cap world, cap hits matter and aligning large cap hits with ELC is important. I'm not saying to be Kenny and hold him in the AHL until he is 23/24/25, we're talking about holding him 1 year until he's 21/22.

Regardless, I get your point that if they are an NHL caliber player we should see them. Makes sense.

I'm aware of that, but I would say the penguins have one more legit year at trying to make a run.

Malkin and Letang will be 38 to start the 24-25 season and Sid will be 37. Imo next year is the year, so give me the extra $666K.

But like i said, Carts isn't waiving for Detroit anyways, and honestly think he retires this summer.

Nothing wrong with aligning large contracts with ELC contracts but you shouldn't clutter your roster with bad large contracts.

Tell Steve Yzerman not to compete for a playoff spot next season. From all the interviews I've seen of him he makes it very clear that's what he's doing.

According to the calculator the Pens would lose 0.7MM in cap space this year, gain 0.3MM in cap space the following year and gain 1.8MM from two more years. So it would only be cheaper for 1 year to buy him out.

Agreed about Carter but you never know.

Pretty huge underpayment for Foligno and Addison. Doubtful Guerin would give up two assets for such a low return. I could see Foligno for that but adding Addison is too much.

Ottawa can Afford Debrincat. the problem is figuring out if he wants to stay or not, OR if we want to spend the extra cash on a Goalie because our goalies kept getting hurt this year. Just look at my 2 recent ACGM its easily doable.

Losing Debrincat is better than rolling with the terrible goalies you have in your ACGMs, but to each his own. Your top 6 still can be solid with losing the Cat.

I feel the roster I put together can make the playoffs and is certainly a better team than this years team by far even with the couple of bad large contracts that end this year and next.

I wouldn't mind the Pittsburgh trade, just seems like alot. The only way I see Carter waiving is if they threaten to buy him out in which case they don't save cap space but open up a roster spot and actually face $1M in salary. For Carter, instead of getting $3M this year he will get $1M this year and $1M next year. So he might have incentive to waive host for the financial aspect of the situation, if they decide to go that route. It would be kind of a sleezy move but never know with the new management. I'm on the side of being okay adding Granlund at a discounted rate. Play him for the season and hope he plays better than he did with Pittsburgh, retain a bit more and likely get a second at the deadline. Rutta I'm really meh on, would rather someone better than him. I would like that pick that's for sure.
For the Nashville trade, take out the picks. Trust me I'm an expert on that trade. I know you want to send a bit of extra value but it's not worth it.
I would do the Toronto trade in a heart beati line Murray but can't be healthy. Would likely need to find a goalie that can clear waivers.
Honestly not that much of a fan of Addison and if you are adding Thomson he doesn't seem like he's needed as much. Foligno for a third is fine, be he would be a great add.
Honestly I wouldn't do this Debrincat trade. You just acquired a bunch of junk to move to the draft, make that pick. That player is likely a high end pick. If Debrincat really wants to be here than he will sign as a free agent or maybe trade the Boston first next year. Might have to add a bit more value though.
I wouldn't have Granlund as a centre, I would move Copp there and have one of those guys move up a line.
I agree with starting the kids in the AHL but getting them done time after the deadline or with injuries.

Yeah another Ned/Hellberg would probably be fine, but Edvinsson is supposed to miss the 1st 2 months due to surgery no?

I'd be fine with moving Bergy up to line 2 and Copp be 3C with Granlund as LW3. Copp was just a bad signing, he didn't show he was capable of handling 2C really ever in his career.

Thomson is more insurance in the RHD pipeline as Ruuta is on 2 years and could be rotated out. Myers only has 1 year left on his deal and I would take him as well, but his cap wouldn't work in this AGM cuz it's $6M.
