Quantity is appropriate, the quality just sucks. This looks like a list of spare parts. You don't get a star player without giving up anything of real value. Replace one of those pieces with Pinto and we're close to a deal.

It's probably an overpay from Ottawa and yet also not enough for Winnipeg. It's difficult to see this deal happening.

Closest comparable would be Colorado trading a 1st, Conor Timmins, and a conditional 3rd for Kuemper. Hellebuyck has more prestige and is better than Kuemper so you would probably expect it to be more.

32nd OA, essentially a 2nd, a C prospects an a conditional 3rd for 1 year of Kuemper and if COL had not won the cup it would have been a bad trade.

With no extension, it will take either a late 1st, or two high 2nd round picks as the base. Maybe with another B or C level piece or two going to Winnipeg.

If there is an extension, you can point to what almost every other star player (of all different positions) has been traded for the last year or so. That is a 1st round pick, and 1 or 2 additional B or C type assets. If this is the direction they go in, it might make sense to include Sogaard as the main piece. He was selected 37th overall a few years ago, and is expected to be an NHL goalie. He was up and down with Ottawa this season, but they were forced to use him in a greater role than what he was ready for. He was inconsistent, but showed the ability to play at a very high level in some games.

I could see something like one of the following.

-Debrincat to third party team for a 2023 1st +
-2023 1st + Pick or Prospect + Forsberg to Winnipeg for Hellybuyck

or

-Sogaard+2024 2nd+B Prospect for Hellybuyck

Goalies tend to not get huge returns, and the market is pretty consistently set that star players get a 1st and another piece or two.

A Brannstrom for Stanley swap also might make sense for both sides to bake into a trade. Brannstrom will be stuck on the bottom pair in Ottawa. Stanley fits that role better. There is room for Brannstrom to grow in Winnipeg's system.
