A New Goalie

Description
With some big changes possibly coming in Winnipeg, the new Pittsburgh GM swings big and lands a new starting goaltender. The bottom-six is mostly made of youth and serviceable cheap contracts to bring in some more well known UFAs in Bertuzzi and Compher. I know Nylander was just signed today, but I think he is mostly an AHL player (at least with this club). Puustinen should be the one to get the crack at top-six minutes. Friedman in my eyes should be the new 7th defenseman, especially with his ability to play both sides. Ruhwedel has been decent over the years, but I think he is entering the "mostly AHL" stage of his career.

I would think Hellebuyck will ask for a bigger contract then that to sign an extension. If that's all it cost, then yes I would do it. But I would think He will want close to Vasilevsky type of contract, a little less. maybe $9mill AAV. That's too pricey to the Pens I would think.

First off that garbage doesn't get Connor Hellebuyck signed autograph.

And you're not getting Hellebuyck any cheaper than 8 x $9,000,000 and according to TSN he's looking closer to Bobrovsky money.

You act like a insider with a Twitter account on here. Hardo.

Not garbage, actually lots of Winnipeg made ACGMs I've seen start with a 1st, 3rd and a good prospect. I'd be more than happy to upgrade the 3rd to a 2nd or add another prospect. I would happily give him that contract as well but he also talks about how he wants to really win a Stanley Cup. Maybe he takes a little less for a contender.

I'd be ok with it, as the cap will increase over the next few years.

What do you call it then? Blomqvist and DeSmith aren't players that Winnipeg would remotely have interest in. Pitt 14th is the only good part of the deal the rest is pretty meh.

I'd rather let a Winnipeg fan add to the conversation then listen to you looking through your Red Wings goggles. DeSmith is just to move a contract out, which you know, happens in hockey trades. Blomqvist is a good goalie prospect and in this scenario they just traded there starter. Like I said, I'm more than happy to add to it.

Yeah it makes total sense to commit long term with an aging goalie like Connor Hellebuyck who at minimum will cost you 8 x $9,000,000 to sign. You basically have 3 years left with both Crosby and Malkin until they retire and Pittsburgh goes down in the crapper. Not sure why Helly would commit to one of the oldest cores in hockey.

Easy, because they are winners and still performing. Sid made it know he is willing to play an extra few years.

Even with Hellebuyck, Their window is basically closing. This season pretty much proved that.

This season was a result of the worst upper management you could have in the NHL. The front office has been cleaned out, FSG wants a championship, I wouldn't be so quick to count them out.

Assuming that gets him I'd take it.

Although I'd scrap that MIN trade.
