Lindholm is a glorified 2C who had success because Gaudreau and Tkachuk carried his offense. Backlund is a great 3C, but neither of them is worth giving up Jarvis, let alone adding Slavin to the mix. I mean, I highly doubt that Calgary has the pieces that would even get the Canes to even consider the notion of moving Slavin. Besides, the Canes would have to choose between Lindholm or Backlund to acquire, assuming they push Staal to 4C, that leaves the 3C spot open.
If you read between the lines of both Backlund and Lindholm’s exit interviews, you can see they want out. Both of them are rentals as well, and the Canes historically have not paid the premium for rentals, with the biggest piece that was given up being a 2nd round pick (Mark Recchi in 2006). Why would they pay a premium for 2 rentals, neither of which they truly need, and realistically can’t afford? Even if Waddell had a gun to his head he wouldn’t make this trade
