Sens nation is it not time to move on from brannstrom? Give me kleven or JBD all day
Erik Brannstrom was one of Ottawa's best defensmen all season. Best defensive metrics on the blueline (better than Zub or Sanderson) and was driving positive results in the offensive zone too, even if he points weren't there, which how could they have been given he played mostly with a bottom six that can't score. Erik Brännström is a quality Dman, they won't find a better or even comparable Dman in his price range.
As for Tyler Kleven and JBD, I like both, but there's no reason to think either will be ready to leapfrog Brannstrom by next season, certainly not both. Personally, my expectation would be for Erik Brannstrom to be the 5thD and for JBD to be either the 6th or 7th. If Kleven is ready, great, if not you get a vet to push Bernard-Docker to be the 6th.
Also, even if both young D do leapfrog Brannstrom, you'll STILL want to have him because you know that Chabot and Chychurn will miss 10-20 games each. Having blueline depth is good.
