Both pretty bad deals for the Blues. But the signings aren't bad and it probably makes us a better team.

Roslovic isn't much of a center, he's at least young though. Probably worth a 3rd. Don't think it'll take a 1st to move Krug. But i think finding somewhere for him to go would be rather difficult. Not sure if i'ts worth moving a first to do so this offseason though. Brown is probably worthless.

Don't think we'll need to pay to dump scandella unless we are gung-ho on doing it this offseason vs the deadline. Which i get the premise of this is to do it for cap space.

Definitely don't love a 5x5 of Graves, especially if we're paying to offload Krug/Scandella in order to do so. Defense certainly looks more balanced though.

For the Jackets to take this one on, I would think they ask for Logan Brown to be dropped off the deal and retention be added. Roslovic is quite valuable for the organization, being a hometown kid and co-face of the local hockey programs with Sean Kuraly. Even with him underperforming his contract, I think they ask for another pick be added instead of Logan Brown.



I certainly expect a hot market for Ryan Graves with Columbus weaponizing that $20ish million to build a defense. Mayfield looks a little high to me, but that may be the price of doing business with RHD these days.

I do as well. I think Graves will certainly get that. I just don’t think whoever gets him is going to be overly thrilled with the contract.

3m AAV for Mayfield who you can probably have as a #4 isn’t bad. I think you’d need to tack on an extra year to get him to sign for that. But again it’s a UFA contract, you likely won’t be thrilled especially with the current need for defense for a lot of teams, especially defensive minded defensemen who have shown a capability to move the puck.

Both players certainly help the Blues. I just think committing more term and money to guys without a #1 and paying to unload contracts is a bad formula. If you pay to unload contracts I think the best strategy is to sign a very short term deal for someone and try to develop within. There’s a lot of risk of doing it this way on compounding assets to fix a hole without actually fixing it even if it may be the best short term solution. I don’t think the Blues are in a short term solution situation though.
