good luck getting a 2nd rounder for a player who has played 82 AHL/NHL games in 3 years.

No reason for TOR do this anyway. He's had some issues with injuries which have kept him out of the line up. He's making barely above minimum wage and is still only 21. Worth keeping him around for next year to see if he can stay healthy.

This too.
If you have a prospect that has had complications, and you know you can't really sell him for much, why try to sell him?
If you trade him, you get a cruddy consolation prize of a prospect that will more than likely never touch the NHL ice. He's more likely to breakthrough than some random 2nd rounder.

100%.

TOR has already invested time and resources into making this kid work. Even if they are able to sell him off, at best they'll get the 2nd round pick back used to draft him. Which is still a loss considering what was spent on him up until this point. Not great asset management.

I would imagine teams would be hesitant to take the gamble on him considering his injuries thus far. And it would for sure be Toronto luck that he gets traded away to all of a sudden stay healthy and become the player they hoped he would be when drafted.

It's why I'm so hesitant to trade prospects that are "busts" or "injury proned".

The odds of the return resulting in a better outcome for the team is slim.
