I agree, but I think it's up to us to build a solid team around them to make up for that. If we can get a competent GM who can give us more Guentzels and Rakells, then we should be fine. Either way we owe it to the core to try and contend for the rest of their careers imo

Letang is under contract for 5 more years after this year. They'll all be in their 40's at that point. If we try to contend for the rest of their careers and put off the rebuild then it will be absolutely brutal. The amount of revenue lost during that time would be detrimental. We simply will not be able to contend for the rest of their careers whether we want to or not. We should rebuild and let them mentor the young talent, unless they want out.

Guentzel alone won't get two 1st rounders. Meier didn't and I'd put him in the same tier as Guentzel. Vancouver will have very high picks both those years, with 2023 being a lottery pick and a chance at Bedard. Completely worth it

trade can't be made until after the draft and if VAN wins the lottery there's no chance VAN does the deal. Only way JR might do that deal is if their 1st is in the 8-10 range.

And on top of that you have the Pens OEL's contract with no retention and giving up Pettersson? You're dumber than Hextall if you think that's worth it.

You don't give up the Pens' best winger and arguably best D-man for a minuscule shot at Bedard. The odds just don't make sense.

Their pick will be top 10 regardless in an extremely stacked draft. If Guentzel alone is worth two 1sts it would be late round. I would rather take a top 10 pick in this draft. Even if it's not Bedard it will still be a very good player. Maybe Vancouver adds a second or Hoglander but that's as much as I could see.
