Description
If the Pens can dump a couple of terrible contracts, including Hextall's and maybe Carters, maybe a new GM can bring in some new and hopefully better defensemen in and we can rebuild over the summer. Teddy Blueger should've never been traded away for the garbage we got back. I think the Pens have some good young talent that can play in the NHL. Hope they get a chance to prove themselves. Not sure what to do with the goalie option. With TJ's injuries this year is he worth re-signing? Do the Pens let him go, trade Desmith, and resign 2 goalies? So not sure what to do there. But at least with these other moves, the Pens have money and options.

I truly don't understand my fellow Pens fans on here and this is leading to other loony AGM's from fans of other teams...

Petry is not a cap dump. Yes, he had a shaky start, but that happens with players starting on new teams after being used to one system for so long. People forget how bad Gonchar and Paul Martin were their first season's here. Petry has also dealt a few injury blows, but he's found his game. He's been playing solid hockey and if not for injury, he'd be on pace for around 45 points. Yes, he has some bad games here and there, but so do most players.

Stop feeding this incorrect narrative that he's some kind of cap dump. Petry is not the problem with this team. Dumo's exit next year will be addition by subtraction. Petry is fine.

The issue isn't that Petry's play, it's his cap hit. Overall he's been fine, but for 6 mil he just hasn't reached that expectation.

What was the expectation though? If he had a healthy year, he'd be on pace for around 45 points. After him finally getting acclimated, he's been solid. Plus, even if his underlying fancy stats are very good.

I'm just not sure what people are expecting. He played primarily in a top pairing role in MTL as well as their 1st PP Unit the last three years he was there, so of course his production is doing to dip, but to be on a 45 point pace in a 2nd pair role with no primary PP time? Come on. This idea that he'd be a cap dump that the Pens would have to pay to trade is absolutely absurd.

So Adin Hill proves he can be a starter in the league and he’s rewarded with a 1x1 after having a 2x2.2 lol

I don't disagree that he might not be a cap dump, my only argument is that he should be a prime contender to be traded this offseason. Would free up needed cap space and while he's not been bad I would still choose 6 mil freed up over him. He's been solid most nights, but has struggled against faster teams. Given I think out blue line needs to get more mobile this offseason and his salary I would shop him and see what the market is. Not terrible if he returns and I think getting rid of Granlund's contract is a bigger priority, but Petry, Rutta both shouldn't be off the table for trades.

None of the goalies salaries are correct. I just threw them in there because as I stated in the descript......I don't know what to do with the Pens goalie situation.

Agreed. It's not he's play, he's been O....K.... but that salary is just to high for a guy that is on the decline in his career and health wise could be an issue. If he was in the $3.5 - $4mil range I would have no arguments with him. But that extra $2.5mil can be better used on the bottom six/goalie situation the Pens have.
